On a roll after finishing the crash helmet I jumped straight into this. I was always (and still am) on the lookout for things to paint around the house. (Nothing is safe!). I bought this guitar about 10 years ago from a friend for a bargain with the sole intention of using it to learn to play. I never had the time to learn and so this got battered and bruised and has spent most if its time with me either living in the loft, in the shed or in the garage, the latter 2 in damp conditions!. It was looking worse for wear and was screaming out for attention!
I wanted to paint a flag on the front of the guitar after seeing a couple of videos on the internet and thinking it would be quick and relatively easy!?! Whilst painting the crash helmet I was constantly going through ideas in my head for the guitar. Rather than painting a 2D flag I wanted more depth and so wanted to show movement by adding ripples with shadows and highlights. I also wanted to test my abilities.
It had to be a Union Jack! I wanted to be sympathetic to what I was painting by having a theme that was connected to music.
With the idea for the front sorted I then thought about the back of the guitar. Again, it had to be connected to music, preferably an acoustic guitar and be British. It had to be a singer/band! I wanted to do something that people would understand why and to paint something that would appeal to the majority. I decided on 'The Beatles' because whether you like them or not, you will have heard of them. They were/still are huge and people will get the 'why'.
Anyway, I waffle far too much so I will cut to the chase and let you see for yourself!
